HO-HO-HO and hope you had a Merry Christmas!

I liked “Hey there JoAnna and all the Wild Things” but Big Dog said it would be better to open like I did above…. 2-Leggers… Go Figure!! Well the Winter season is upon us and so far, it’s the season I like the best. More about that in a moment.

The most important point I would like to make is that if you look at most of the pictures that I have included, you will see that there are “no strings” attached. I know that I still have some growing up to do but I feel like the kid on the television advertisement, “I’m a Big Kid Now”. I do have to listen more and I am still working at it. I also have to “stick around” as Big Dog puts it.Always something, but at least I get to run around and as long as I listen and stay within the boundaries, I do not have to be a “Dope On A Rope” as Big Dog says.

Well I got to see and experience my very first Spring and Summer seasons here in my new home. Spring is so beautiful here in the Umpqua valley. The climate was very comfortable and the river was a real treat when the temperature started warming up. There is always something to do and lessons to learn. We go to class once a week as well as visit the new dog park. Sometimes I can get an extra outing at the dog park during the week. Then the Fall season came and what a treat! All the leaves on all the trees that I passed by, around, could see within my sight, and yes even behind my back were falling off just for me What joy!!! Something to chase! Something to hunt down, something to pounce on, and best yet something it was OK to do!!!!! I still do not have a clue about these 2-leggers. They have the best things show up to play with and have fun with and they just want to gather them up, put them into big plastic bags and take them away. I just don’t understand.Couldn’t you save them for later?

I understand from listening to Big Dog and Lady Dog that this year is coming to an end. It’s my very first ending of a year. But then there were quite a few “firsts” this month for me.

December started off quite nice, the sun stayed out and the river was brilliant. The water was clear and, oh so cold. Lady Dog used to call it the North Umpqua River, but now she calls it River Zen – playground to the Husky. She kept telling me that we needed to get out and enjoy it while it lasted.I had no idea why she was worried about it-it hasn’t gone anywhere yet. But one night it started raining and the next morning my playground was gone.I don’t know where the rocks went or where are all the water came from, but I’m not playing down there anymore. I’m including before and after pictures so you can see what I’m talking about. I guess now I’ll have to play out in the front yard, it’s not as much fun as the river, but it can be fun too.& Lots of green grass and room to run. And I still get to go into town at least once a week to visit my friends at the Dog Park.

If I thought the river changed, you should have seen what they did to the inside of the house. Things that I was used to disappeared and new things took their place.Lots of green things, lights, little men dressed in red suits, teddy bears, and a Santa’s village appeared on tables that weren’t there before. JoAnna, they even brought a tree into the house and covered it in little lights, silver garland, and ornaments that looked like “puppy toys”. Now being a young husky with a healthy curiosity, I can tell you I was intrigued.I investigated what was on and under all of those tables and on the tree. I heard Big Dog say this was the time of year for peace and joy, I would have settled for peace and quiet. Every time I got my nose into something interesting, Lady Dog was right there wagging her finger at me telling me what she was going to do to me if I broke one of her Santa Clauses, ate an ornament, or knocked the tree over. And sending me back to Canada wasn’t one of the options this time.

I finally found a nice quiet little spot under a round table with a cover that went all the way to the floor. That was my Christmas spot. It was like having my own little cave that I could hide away in when I needed a quiet moment and Lady Dog agreed that it was OK.

As the month moved on towards the end of the year little boxes and things started appearing under the Christmas Tree, by that time I knew enough to keep my nose out of them and I did. On Christmas morning, we got to open the boxes. Yes, I said “We”, there were actually presents under the tree for me. And Lady Dog gave me a big, fat bone, so I forgave her for the finger wagging.

I understand that I have another first coming up shortly. The beginning of a New Year! This last one wasn’t a bad one. I left one home where I was loved and moved into another home where I am equally loved. I’m well fed, sheltered, and cared for. You don’t need to worry about me here I am a welcomed and loved member of the pack.

I think I hear something outside, so I’m going to close now and go to my window seat where I like to sit and watch the world go by. But before I do, I would like to make a wish for you. From our pack to yours, we wish you all the best in the upcoming New Year.; May you find peace, health, prosperity, and happiness.Blessings to you and all the wild things.

 Love from the Oregon pack,
Zen Tao, Big Dog, and Lady Dog
P.S. On those special, clear, and full moon nights when I am outside, when I listen to the wind I hear home and the calls from all the wild things……
